Homes out here take a beating from the coast. The salt air around the harbor, Ditch Plains, and the bluffs is tough on fixtures, fittings, and exposed pipe over time, so corrosion is something we keep an eye on. The exposed, wind-hit properties — especially on the bluffs and out toward the Point — are at real risk of freezing when a cold front comes through and the house is closed up for the winter.
Montauk also turns over hard in summer. Rental houses near downtown and Hither Hills need water heaters that can keep up with a full house, and they need to be opened up clean in the spring and closed down properly in the fall.
